The Witcher Comics Reading Order

Today, we toss a coin to the Witcher, the famous Geralt of Rivia and the leading man of the Witcher Franchise. Created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher began as a series of novels and short stories that gained a cult following and became a cultural phenomenon in Poland.

In the English-speaking market, The Witcher became a household name through the video games and spin-offs developed by CD Projekt Red since 2007. These games revolves around Geralt’s adventures in a world of magic, political intrigue, and dangerous creatures. Players must explore, combat enemies and make difficult decisions to complete quests in this complex and immersive fantasy world. This reputation naturally grew more years later, with the Netflix television series!

While the video games act as non-canonical sequels to the books, they are often considered part of their own Universe, a canon that has expanded over time with short stories, promotional videos, and a rich library of comics.

Go beyond the books and video games to explore the world of Geralt of Rivia with our Witcher Comic Guide!

I. The Witcher Comic Book Guide

Since 2014, Dark Horse Comics has been publishing The Witcher comics as part of CD Projekt’s The Witcher media franchise. The stories are mostly original, except for Fox Children, which is based on one of the chapters of the book Season of Storms. The American publisher has released several limited series, a few one-shot/short story comics, and a collection of graphic novel adaptations of the short stories compiled in The Last Wish.

The Witcher: Specials and One-Shots

The Witcher – Library and Omnibus Edition

Most of those stories have been reprinted in the Library Edition, a comic book format from Dark Horse Comics that brings together three stories into one hardcover.

For a lower price, the Omnibus edition also reprints three stories in one book, but with a softcover.

Note: Volumes 10 and 11 are currently only available as individual trade paperbacks.

The Witcher: The Graphic Novel Adaptations

While most Dark Horse titles feature original stories set in the video game continuity, the publisher also produces a hardcover collection of graphic novels that adapt the stories from The Last Wish:

Beyond Dark Horse: More Witcher Comics

Dark Horse Comics is not the only publisher to have explored this universe. From the original Polish classics to digital-only releases and even a manga, the following titles offer even more ways to experience the world of The Witcher:

  • The Witcher: Classic Collection (1993-1995) – Collects the original Polish Witcher comics: A Road with No Return, The Betrayal, Geralt, The Lesser Evil, The Last Wish, and The Bounds of Reason.
  • The Witcher: Reasons of State (2011) – A two-part comic book from CD Projekt Red

  • The Little Witcher (2025) – A children’s comic book from CD Projekt Red and published in English by Random House Worlds about Geralt raising a young Ciri.

II. The Witcher Chronological Order

The Witcher video games are non-canon sequels to the books. While writer Andrzej Sapkowski doesn’t consider the games (or any media related to them) as canon, the games treat the events of the books as part of the backstory. However, you don’t need to read the books to play the games!

Because the creators of the games take the book events into consideration, they are included in the following chronological order—though I’ve only listed the comics for the stories that have been adapted into graphic novels.

This list tries to provide a guide to all material linked to the CD Projekt Red Universe (also called the CDPR Universe). This order wouldn’t have been possible without the work of mina86. Go check it out for a deeper look into the Witcher franchise!
