Between Marvel Omnibus, DC Omnibus, the Epic Collection, DC Finest, Compact editions, and everything else publishers put out, there’s always way there’s always more to discover! Launched this past March, What to Read This Month highlights each month’s notable releases. Here’s our selection for May, featuring some great stories from the Suicide Squad, Mickey Mouse, and more. And if you missed last month’s picks, you can find them here.

Between Marvel or DC Omnibus, the Epic Collection, DC Finest, Compact editions, and everything else publishers put out, there’s always way there’s always more to discover!

What to Read This Month: The Best Comics of March 2025

While you can check out all the Marvel or DC Comics Omnibus announcements for 2025 or see the upcoming releases in the Epic Collection, DC Finest and DC Compact on the website, there’s still a lot more collected editions put out there every month by comic book publishers! So much in fact that sometimes, you’ll wish you could buy more than what’s reasonable. That cost adds up and the time is missing to read everything we want!

That’s why we are launching a new column, starting in March, to spotlight a selection of collected editions released each month we think would be great to have in our library (and yours by extension!).

Marvel Epic Collection: The 2025 Release Schedule

Everybody is not collecting costly omnibuses and Marvel Comics knows that. That’s why the House of Ideas launched, in 2013, the more affordable Marvel Epic Collection. This collection of trade paperbacks reprints large parts of Marvel Comics’ back catalog in chronological order. 

Each Epic Collection is focused on a specific character, team, or title–popular ones like Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and lesser-known characters like Moon Knight and Iron Fist–, presenting the stories in the order they were originally published and, unlike some other collected editions, these books don’t rely on being read in sequential order.

A single volume might contain 20-30 issues of a comic, including main series issues, annuals, tie-ins, and sometimes related series that add to the storyline, offering a comprehensive block of stories, and making it easy to jump into a character or series without needing previous volumes. This helps with the fact they are not published in strict chronological order, meaning a volume released this year might cover the 1960s, while another might focus on the 1980s. Over time, the line is designed to fill in all the gaps.

Sadly, these books may be affordable, but they are not printed in large quantities. It’s too easy to miss out on a new one. We will try to list here what’s coming, what’s already published, and if there are reprints.

The Complete Guide to Marvel Omnibus Releases in 2024

It’s the end of the year 2024 and, as far as Marvel Comics goes, the publication of new omnibus collected editions was aplenty and varied. As every comic book collector knows, those big books are not published in large quantities. That’s why Marvel also re-printed a good selection of them this year as new subsequent volumes are published.

It may be hard to follow what is announced and when a book is coming out, and that’s why we have a page dedicated to the release schedule of the Marvel Omnibuses (and for the DC Omnibuses too). We are updating it once a month as Marvel announced from time to time a new batch of future releases.

It’s a continuing flow of new comic books and you may have missed something during the last 12 months. That’s why it’s time to take a look back with a complete listing of all the omnibuses published (or republished) in 2024 by Marvel Comics.

The Complete Guide to DC Comics Omnibus Releases in 2024

As 2024 concludes, it is time to reflect on the last 12 months of collected omnibus editions published by DC Comics. Unlike the continuous flow of new releases and reprints of omnibus coming from Marvel Comics, DC Comics was still lagging far behind during the year’s first half. But after almost two years of slow releases, things are picking up.

DC Comics launched new collections, the popular DC Compact Comics and its version of the Epic Collection, DC Finest. And of course, the publication of new omnibuses became a lot more regular, with some welcome reprints added to the schedule.

Nevertheless, new comic books are still hitting the shelves every week and you may have missed something during the last 12 months (if you didn’t follow our page–updated once a month!–dedicated to the release schedule of DC Omnibuses). That’s why it’s time to take a look back with a complete listing of all the omnibuses published (or republished) in 2024 by DC Comics.

DC Finest: Your Guide to the Upcoming Graphic Novel Releases (2024-2025)

Years ago, Marvel launched its Epic Collection, a great way to read full stories at an affordable price. You choose your favorite heroes and pick one up to have a complete run and arc, to access some old and newer, some classics, some forgotten… It was and still is a massive success. Now, DC Comics has decided to follow this with its own line of books: DC Finest.

What is the DC Comics Finest line?

The model is not completely identical to the Epic Line, but the idea behind it is relatively similar: “a new line of comprehensive collections of the most in-demand periods, genres, and characters from across DC history.” as DC Comics puts it. This large-size paperback collections start at $34.99 and, unlike most of DC’s already established collections, puts the focus on characters and storytelling genres instead of creators.

Each DC Finest book will cover a specific period and, depending on the chronology, a volume dedicated to “Robin” may feature Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, or Jason Todd. Idem with the Green Lanterns, expect stories on Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Alan Scott, and others, depending on the era. You’ll have some of the classic silver adventures of Barry Allen and at another time some Modern Age Wally West will run toward danger in one of the Flash books.

Following in the footsteps of French publisher Urban Comics and its ‘Urban Nomad’ collection, DC Comics has recently started to release a new line of graphic novels called DC Compact Comics. The concept? A new-reader-friendly collection at a good price that you can take with you everywhere!

What is the DC Comics Compact Edition?

Launched in June 2024 with the ultimate classic DC Comics (and best-seller of all time!) Watchmen, the new DC Compact Comics line is designed to appeal to prose and manga readers with a smaller format than the traditional 6 5/8″ x 10 3/16″. Featuring a 5.5″ x 8.5″ standard book trim—the most widely circulated softcover size in the US—DC wants to attract new readers by offering iconic stories in a more portable and affordable format. With a price point of $9.99, these compact editions deliver a full-color self-contained, best-selling DC stories that you can take with you everywhere!
