In the world of the Green Lanterns, not all characters wear a green ring. Created by John Broome and Gil Kane, Carol Ferris is a businesswoman and skilled pilot who runs Ferris Aircraft. She is also the love interest of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, who initially became the unwilling bearer of a Star Sapphire gem. This granted her powers similar to those of the Green Lanterns, but it also altered her personality, transforming her into the supervillain Star Sapphire.
At that time, there was no Star Sapphire Corps. However, since its creation by the Zamarons, who use the Violet Light of Love to change the hearts of the universe, Carol has been able to stay true to herself and become a superheroine.
As one of the most important female characters in Green Lantern history, Carol Ferris appeared in many video games, as well as in animated series and films.
Follow Carol Ferris’s journey from reluctant Star Sapphire to superheroine and member of the Star Sapphire Corps with our Reading Order.

V. Rebirth and Beyond
After the end of New 52 and the New Guardians, Carol Ferris had very few appearances and was often reduced to a cameo with mostly only a two-part story by Grant Morrison worth checking out. Things changed for Carol/Star Sapphire with the arrival of writer Jeremy Adams on the Green Lantern title at the beginning of the Dawn of DC era.
- Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #31 — “Mind Games”
- The Green Lantern: Season Two #9-10 — “The Wedding of the Trillennium!”/”Multi-Crisis On Intimate Earths!”
- Green Lantern (2023) #1-6 — “Back In Action” is Jeremy Adams’s first story on Green Lantern after the events of Dark Crisis.
- Green Lantern (2023) #8 — “Hope No More”
- Green Lantern (2023) #11-12 — “Vegas, Baby. Vegas”
This era came to an end with Amanda Waller’s coup in Absolute Power. Carol’s story takes place in Green Lantern #13, Absolute Power: Task Force Seven #3, Green Lantern #14-15.

All In Starts here. Jeremy Adams is still the main writer on Green Lantern and continues to explore Hal and Carol’s relationship as well as her role as Star Sapphire. Carol is also now part of the Justice League Unlimited, although she mostly helps in the field or is just a background character in this title, but this gives her more opportunity to work with Hal in Green Lantern.
- Green Lantern: Civil Corps Special / Green Lantern (2023): #16-18 — “Civil Corps”
- Green Lantern (2023) #19 — “Loose Threads”
- Green Lantern (2023) #21-22 — “Mind Games”/”Highway to Hell”
- Green Lantern (2023) #24 — “Because I’m Happy”
- The Starbreaker Supremacy (crossover) — Carol appears in all the issues of this Green Lantern crossover story Green Lantern (2023) #25, Green Lantern Corps (2025) #7, Green Lantern (2023) #26, Green Lantern Corps (2025) #8, Green Lantern (2023) #27, Green Lantern Corps (2025) #9
- Green Lantern (2023) #28 — “The Name”
- Green Lantern (2023) #32 — “City of Love”
Then DC K.O. happened. Star Sapphire is among the heroes entering the tournament and appears in DC K.O.: #1-2, DC K.O: Boss Battle and DC K.O #5. However, she doesn’t do really much and like the Green Lanterns, her role is quite limited making this reading totally optional for her.
- Justice League Intergalactic Special #1
- Justice League: Dream Girls #1-4 — it’s a follow-up of the Intergalactic Special with Star Sapphire in a supporting role as the story is focused on Dreamer and Galaxy.
Carol Ferris Comics Collection Part. 5. Carol is an important part of Jeremy Adams’s run on the Green Lantern. All those issues have been collected in trade paperbacks: Green Lantern Vol. 1: Back In Action, Green Lantern Vol. 2: Love and War, Green Lantern Vol. 3: Power of Will, Green Lantern Vol. 4: Civil Corps, Green Lantern Vol. 5: Fractured Spectrum, Green Lantern / Green Lantern Corps: The Starbreaker Supremacy, Green Lantern Vol. 6: With This Ring.
