Age of Revelation Reading Order, The Marvel Universe 10 years into the future

As Marvel Comics celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Age of Apocalypse, one of the most famous alternate timelines in the X-Universe, the publisher is revisiting the cataclysmic style of the ’90s with Age of Revelation.

Instead of an alternate reality, it is an alternate future that takes over the X-Men line. To be more specific, the Marvel Universe is going 10 years into the future “where the world has been reshaped by Apocalypse’s heir, Doug Ramsey AKA Revelation!”

Arising from current events happening in the X-Men main title from writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman, Revelation has set out on the impossible task that Apocalypse entrusted him with: creating a world where only the fittest survived. Ten years later, Doug Ramsey commands Earth with his voice, creating the Revelation Territories, a new mutant utopia built on an insidious lie. Beneath the surface, rebellion brews and as a ragtag X-Men team strikes from the shadows, Revelation faces threats from within.

Welcome to the Age of Revelation, a spiritual sequel to Age of Apocalypse that you can explore now with our reading order and checklist!

What to read before Age of Revelation?

Age of Revelation is set in an alternate future. It means you can jump into the story without having to read anything beforehand! With that said, it’s a good place to check out the four-issue ‘X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse’ saga that explains how Apocalypse’s heir was chosen at the end of the Krakoa era:

Then, Apocalypse’s heir started his journey towards the Age of Revelation in X-Men #19, while the other issues teased what was to come. All those issues are completely optional.

Infinity Comic! This optional reading covers events set between the present time and the main event taking place 10 years into the future.

It all begins here!

Tie-ins Interlude! The following are optional stand-alone tie-ins set in the Age of Revelation reality that have various connections to the main story and can be read mostly at any time during the event.

  • Iron & Frost #1-3 – feat. Emma Frost and Tony Stark. At this stage, this stand-alone story can be read at any time.
  • Longshots #1-3 – a meta comedy book about a reality TV show called Longshots that can be read at any time.
  • Binary #1-3 – Stand-alone story featuring Carol Danvers, who has inherited the Phoenix Force and is trying to protect a town in the Revelation territories.
  • Radioactive Spider-Man #1-3 – stand-alone story feat. Peter Parker and Cecilia Reyes in New York City.

  • Rogue Storm #1-3 – feat Red Rogue and Storm. Part of the story takes place after Unbreakable X-Men (with Gambit’s appearance).

Tie-ins Interlude! The Age of Revelation expands with more tie-ins, although some stories here have a loose connection with Revelation himself, with the character being present or referenced.

  • Laura Kinney: Sabretooth #1-3 – A Family drama featuring Laura Kinney as Sabretooth and on the side of Revelation. The conclusion puts the story before Amazing X-Men #3.
  • X-Vengers #1-3 – feat. Moonstar, Hawkeye, Vision, Natasha Romanoff, Shang-Chi, Scott Lang as the X-Vengers team still trying to save the World. Revelation is present, also there is no details that inform us where this story takes place precisely in the continuity.
  • Undeadpool #1-3 – Wade Wilson is on a mission, trying to save a young mutant by getting her to her destination in St. Louis, with the X-Men. Also featuring Cable. A panel shows the Omega Kids in #2, so better to read before this particular comic series. The Blue Dashers from Expatriate X-Men are present in the last part of the story, before their own adventures!
  • Expatriate X-Men #1-3 – featuring Ms. Marvel, Rift, Bronze, Melee and Colossus, who form the mercenary team the Blue Dashers and are based on the Mississippi River. References to events from Undeadpool #3 and Amazing X-Men #2 as well as the Ghost of San Francisco (who appears in Book of Revelation) are made. Better read this story after all of this!
  • Omega Kids #1-3 – feat. Quentin Quire and a group of Omega kids who are trained to hunt down mutant traitors.

It all ends here!

The Epilogue – The Age of Revelation came to an end in the future, but what about the present? The answer lies in the following issues, serving as an epilogue to the event.

  1. Doing some incredible work. I’m waiting till the event is finished to read it in one go and was looking for someone who actually cared about putting things in order and didn’t just list the release order.
I’m hoping you eventually place the infinity comics at the beggining if they take place before everything else!

    1. Hi Santiago,

Thank You! I actually read the next story on Infinity Comic (still one to go), so I placed those issues before the main event. I feel that it can be read that way. I try to organize in a way that doesn’t break too much the rhythm of the story and offer some fluidity.

It’s a little bit difficult to determine for the tie-ins, so don’t hesitate to give your opinion if you have suggestions to improve the guide after your reading!
