What’s going on in the Comic Book World? Life can be pretty busy, so we highlight recent news and articles that may catch your interest in our seventh edition of Comic Book News.
While there is no bigger anniversary this year than Peanuts’ 75th Diamond Anniversary, it’s not the only one. Creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Oeming are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Powers with a new project titled Powers 25. Here’s Dark Horse’s description, now the official publisher after several reprints across different publishers:
This new tale is a fun, dangerous, adult look at a world of heroes through the eyes of special homicide officer Detective Kutter and her brand-new partner, and the first power to ever make the powers division, Moebius Moon. Under the watchful eyes of legendary Captains Deena Pilgrim and Enki Sunrise, the new detectives run through a minefield of all-new dangers. A new unsolvable powers murder has Kutter and Moon questioning EVERYTHING about the world and their place in it.
Powers 25 will take the form of a 12-issue ongoing series, with each issue featuring art from Dark Horse creators including Mike Mignola, Stan Sakai, David Mack, Scott Hepburn, Eric Powell , Jill Thompson. The first issue will be released on September 10.
- This September, Marvel celebrates the landmark 450th issue of Doctor Strange with a giant-sized special featuring stories from an all-star lineup, including current writer Derek Landy, legendary contributors Roger Stern and J. Michael Straczynski, and artists Ron Lim, Ivan Fiorelli, and Christian Ward—who makes his Marvel writing debut with a story he also illustrates
- Fun Home creator Alison Bechdel releases her new graphic novel Spent this month. In an interview with Autostraddle, she discusses fame, privilege, and revisiting familiar characters in this latest work of autofiction.
- After Vampirella, Christopher is taking on another iconic Dynamite Entertainment character with a reboot of Red Sonja in Sonja Reborn, featuring artwork by Alessandro Miracolo.
- Popverse explores how Giant-Size X-Men #1 revitalized Marvel’s mutant franchise and reshaped the publisher’s future, drawing on inspiration and unused concepts from two abandoned DC projects
- Tessa Hulls’ debut graphic novel Feeding Ghosts has won the Pulitzer Prize for Memoir or Autobiography. The book, which traces her family’s complex trauma and continent-spanning history following China’s Cultural Revolution, took ten years to complete. Hulls has said it will be her only graphic novel.
- DC’s Jim Lee and Image Comics’ Ghost Machine are collaborating on a cover swap featuring Batman and Geiger. Jim Lee’s Geiger cover, his first for Image since the 2011 release of Spawn #200, will appear on Geiger #19 in October. Gary Frank’s Batman cover will be published in Batman #163 in August.
- Stephen Colbert is joining the DC Universe. The talk show host will appear on a special variant cover of DC Comics’ upcoming Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #40, which hits shelves June 18th.
- Act 4 Publishing, the new art book imprint curated by Eisner-winning editor Scott Dunbier, has announced two major releases for early 2026. Wally Wood’s EC Stories Artist’s Edition – Expanded arrives on February 10, followed by Mike Mignola’s Hellboy in Hell Book 2 Artist’s Edition.
