One World Under Doom Reading Order, a new Dark era in the Marvel Comics Universe

  • by

It’s a new day and a new world in the Marvel Comics Universe. It’s One World Under Doom!!! The Sorcerer Supreme is launching his Dark Reign era in 2025.

To save the world from the Vampire invasion, Doctor Strange had to give Doctor Victor Von Doom his title as Sorcerer Supreme. After that, Latveria’s leader retreated to his country. Months passed without any news, but the wait just ended: Doctor Doom, Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, has magically taken over every broadcast medium on the planet and declared himself Emperor of the World — the ruler of a new United Latveria!

Leaders of the World complied, but Earth’s heroes are not so easily manipulated. The resistance is forming, but will they succeed in stopping Doom’s machinations? The answers will come, written by Fantastic Four author Ryan North and artist R. B. Silva in their “One World Under Doom” limited series. Of course, it would not be a Marvel event if the story were confined to one book. Everybody is affected by this power shift.

What to Read Before One World Under Doom?

Want to read some Doctor Doom comics beforehand? Check out our Complete Doctor Doom Reading Order Guide and discover where to start with the Fantastic Four’s nemesis, from his first appearance in 1962 to his reign over Latveria and beyond!

As stated earlier, nothing really happened since Doom became the Sorcerer Supreme. You may want to start with that and read the Blood Hunt event.

After that, Doom reappeared in The Avengers #19 to put the superhero team to the test. A story collected in Avengers by Jed Mackay vol. 4: Storm.

Then, the most impactful action of Doctor Doom is related to Spider-Man, as Latveria’s powerful leader made him an offer he couldn’t refuse in the storyline “8 Deaths of Spider-Man.”

Finally, as Ryan North writes One World Under Doom, you may think you need to be up-to-date with your Fantastic Four comics. However, know that Doom barely appeared during this run until now, as nobody really heard about him until he reappeared and proclaimed himself Emperor. If there is one FF book le read before the event, this will be the following one with the Richards visiting Latveria… or at least trying to do so (issue #25). Doom eventually appeared in issue #28, which served as a prologue to the event.

Ultimately, it’s not connected to the event, but if you want to know what happened to Doctor Strange:

One World Under Doom Reading Order: Issue by Issue

The “One World Under Doom” event was presented as more of an era than a traditional crossover, but it was a traditional crossover. Everything related to it is in the following list.

As usual, the main issues are in bold and the tie-ins are not, except when some of them contain important details to the main plot.

  • Storm #5 – The end of the Storm/Doom meeting with cosmic ramifications.
  • Doctor Strange of Asgard #1-5 – Strange comes to Asgard to become the Sorcerer Supreme. It’s not clearly established whether it occurs before, after, or during OWUD #1, but Strange only referred to Doom as the Sorcerer Supreme, not the Emperor Supreme. It may be moved later if more details are made clear.
  • Fantastic Four #28Prologue
  • One World Under Doom #1
  • X-Factor #7 – A X-Factor Mission set between the moments the nations were informed of Doom’s plan and his public announcement at the beginning of One World Under Doom #1.
  • Weapon X-Men #1 – Cable, Wolverine, Deadpool, and Chamber go on a rescue mission. The rest of the series is not under the OWUD banner.
  • Red Hulk #1 – Doom has detained General Ross for months, and now he may have found allies.
  • Fantastic Four #29 – Set one week after OWUD #1. The Fantastic Family takes a day off to deal with a tangential problem.
  • Iron Man #6 – Tony Stark has to make a business decision after the events of OWUD #1.
  • One World Under Doom #2
  • Fantastic Four #30-33 – Issue #30 Picks up exactly where OWUD #2 ends with the FF.
  • Thunderbolts: Doomstrike #1-5 – Bucky and his team want to stop Emperor Doom.
  • G.O.D.S.: One World Under Doom #1 – Wyn and Mia help Doom do what a Sorcerer Supreme has to do. A one-shot not connected to the rest, only referenced The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man.
  • Doom Academy #1-5 – Strange Academy, but in Doom’s Latveria. Not affected by the events taking place elsewhere.
  • Red Hulk #2-5 – Not affected by the events of OWUD #2, can be read directly after RH #1.
  • Doom’s Division #1-4 – The adventures of Tiger Division in South Korea post-OWUD #2. Not related to the rest of the heroes, can be read here or later.
  • Iron Man #7 – Not affected by the events of OWUD #2, can be read directly after IM #6.
  • Superior Avengers #1 – The son of Doom assembles his own Avengers team with “heroes” from the future.
  • One World Under Doom #3
  • The Avengers #25-27 – set during the events of OWUD #3.
  • Superior Avengers #2 – Clearly set after the events of OWUD #3.
  • Red Hulk #6-8 – A bit of time has passed since the events of RH #5, but no clear reference to the main series.
  • Fantastic Four #1-3 – Clearly set after the events of OWUD #3, and FF #3 has to take place here for OWUD #4 to make sense
  • One World Under Doom #4
  • One World Under Doom #5
  • The Avengers #28 – The story concludes with the Avengers coming back from the events of OWUD #4-5.
  • Iron Man #8-10 – IM #9 is set after the events of OWUD #3, while IM #10 is set after the events of OWUD #5 (maybe #6), as they are referenced. The way the story is told, it’s better to read them together
  • Runaways #1-4 – New story, old characters. Now they run away from Doom. The story doesn’t connect to any other part of the event.
  • Superior Avengers #3-6 – All the Avengers are here. Set after the Avengers storyline (but apparently Black Panther had not returned to Wakanda yet), after OWUD #5, but before OWUD #7.
  • Red Hulk #9 – It’s been a few days since the events of RH #8.
  • One World Under Doom #6
  • Runaways #5 – The conclusion of the story makes a clear reference to revelations from OWUD #6
  • Red Hulk #10 – The End. It’s only said that Doom’s Empire is crumbling.
  • One World Under Doom #7
  • One World Under Doom #8
  • One World Under Doom #9
  • The Will of Doom #1 (epilogue)

What to read after One World Under Doom?

Even before One World Under Doom had concluded, Marvel Comics had already announced who would claim the title of Sorcerer Supreme: Scarlet Witch. But will she keep it? The answer is in the series “Sorcerer Supreme” this winter.
