JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Manga in Order

One of the longest manga series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will ensure long reading sessions with more than 134 volumes released (and more coming). Created by Hirohiko Araki more than 35 years ago – it started in 1987 to be precise -, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure tells the story of the Joestar family and their endless conflict with the supernatural.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure became one of the most famous manga for its art style, flamboyant characters, wild humor and bloody battles. Split into nine parts (at this date), each one explores different characters and themes, thriving to deliver something different at every opportunity.

The manga became very popular in 1989 with its most iconic arc Stardust Crusaders, and grew into a media franchise including spin-off manga, light novels, video games, TV anime, and live-action films.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, All The Volumes

Let’s go on a bizarre adventure with Jo! As said, the Shōnen/seinen manga consists of more than 130 volumes split in nine parts (to this date). Then, Jojo Universe started expanding with manga spin-offs and light novels. As always, those are optional as what matters is the main manga.

  • Deadman’s Questions (1999) – no official English translation yet. Short story manga by Hirohiko Araki featuring featuring Yoshikage Kira from Diamond is Unbreakable. Collected in Under Execution, Under Jailbreak
  • Oingo Boingo Brothers Adventure (2002) – no official English translation yet. One Shot manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. a compilation of Tohth’s predictions from Stardust Crusaders.
  • Rohan at the Louvre (2010) – One Shot written by Hirohiko Araki starring Rohan Kishibe.
  • Jolyne, Fly High With Gucci (2012) – One Shot manga written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki n collaboration with creative director Frida Giannini of Gucci0. Set in another timeline.
  • Fujiko’s Bizarre Worldly Wisdom -Whitesnake’s Miscalculation (2021) – no official English translation yet. a series of manga one-shots from Sho Aimoto set after Stone Ocean
  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Crazy Diamond’s Demonic Heartbreak (2021-2023) – Written by Kouhei Kadono and illustrated by Tasuku Karasuma. Set between Stardust Crusaders and Diamond is Unbreakable. Three Volumes. The First volume in English has been announced for the end of the year.

There is no official English translation for the moment for any of the novels.

  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: The Genesis of Universe (1993) – Written by Mayori Sekijima and Hiroshi Yamaguchi. Set during the events of Stardust Crusaders.
  • Golden Heart, Golden Ring (2001) – Written by Miya Shotaro, Gichi Otsuka with Araki’s involvement. An original story set during the events of Golden Wind.
  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure 4th Another Day (2007) – Written by Otsuichi and illustrated by Araki. A sequel to Diamond is Unbreakable. No official English translation.
  • Purple Haze Feedback (2011) – Written by Kouhei Kadono. Sequel to the events of Golden Wind.
  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Over Heaven (2011) Written by Nisio Isin. The lost transcript of DIO’s Diary briefly seen in Stone Ocean.
  • Jorge Joestar (2012) – Written by Otaro Maijo.
  • Las extrañas aventuras de JOJO: El Aleph (2022-2023) – Written by by Junjo Shindo. Set between the Tendency and Stardust Crusaders.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, The Collection

The publication of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in the United States was initially a bit chaotic. Viz Media wanted to bring the manga to America in the early 1990s, but this plan failed. They didn’t abandon the idea, as there were discussions to release the manga as a monthly comic in 2002, but this idea didn’t work out due to the market collapsing. Finally, some of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure was published in 2005 when the editor released Stardust Crusaders, the third part, in a paperback format (with changes to some names and censored scenes).

It would take almost ten years for JoJo to finally make a breakthrough in the American market with the release of the JoJonium, a special hardcover edition of the first three parts of the manga. Continuing from there, Viz released part 4 and onward in a hardcover format.

Part 1: Phantom Blood

It’s time to start this adventure in the company of Young Jonathan Joestar. His life is forever changed when he meets his new adopted brother, Dio. For some reason, Dio has a smoldering grudge against him and derives pleasure from seeing him suffer. But every man has his limits, as Dio finds out. This is the beginning of a long and hateful relationship!

Published between 1986 and 1987, Phantom Blood consists of 44 chapters that have been collected by VIZ Media into three hardcover volumes (part of the JoJonium collection).

Part 2: Battle Tendency

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with Part 2: Battle Tendency! The Joestar family is called upon to do battle against evil again and this time, it’s Joseph Joestar, the grandson of Jonathan Joestar! And his enemies are more powerful and diabolical than ever! Behold! The terror of the Pillar Men!

Battle Tendency was released between 1987 and 1989 in Japan. It consists of 69 chapters, which have been collected by VIZ Media into four hardcover volumes (as part of the JoJonium collection.)

Part 3: Stardust Crusaders

And now the most iconic part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure starts! A fiendish villain once thought to be dead has resurfaced and become even more powerful! To fight this evil, the aging Joseph Joestar enlists the help of his hot-blooded grandson, Jotaro Joestar. Together they embark on a perilous adventure that will take them around the world!

Stardust Crusaders was released between 1989 and 1992 in Japan. It consists of 152 chapters, which have been collected by VIZ Media into ten hardcover volumes (as part of the JoJonium collection.)

Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable

 Continuing from the English JoJonium releases of Parts 1-3, Viz Media released Part 4 in a hardcover format. There’s a killer on the loose in Morioh, and Josuke and his friends are on the hunt!

Diamond Is Unbreakable was released between 1992 and 1995 in Japan. It consists of 174 chapters, which have been collected by VIZ Media into nine hardcover volumes.

Part 5: Golden Wind

Golden Wind is here! Hirohiko Araki’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure shifts the action from Japan to Italy, as Koichi Hirose heads to Europe to find an aspiring gangster named Giorno Giovanna, the secret son of Dio Brando, scourge of the Joestar family. Organized crime meets family drama and unbelievable enemy Stands in this Part 5!

Golden Wind (also known as Vento Aureo) was released between 1995 and 1999 in Japan. It consists of 155 chapters, which have been collected by VIZ Media into nine hardcover volumes.

JoJo’s Extended Universe! Two (optional) light novels are set during or after this part:

  • Purple Haze Feedback
    Light novel Written by Kouhei Kadono. Set six months after the events of Golden Wind. Available in Japanese, Italian, and French.
  • GioGio’s Bizarre Adventure 2: Golden Heart, Golden Ring
    Light novel set during the events of Golden Wind. Available in Japanese and Italian

Part 6: Stone Ocean

We leave Italy for America, as Jolyne Cujoh—daughter of Jotaro Kujo—is sentenced to 15 years in prison for a murder she didn’t commit! In a bizarre turn of events, the prison is filled with Stand users. Some become her allies, but many are sent to kill Jolyne and her friends in a scheme to resurrect the scourge of the Joestar family—DIO! It’s a battle for survival in a prison where death lurks around every corner while Jolyne fights to save her father’s life in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 6—Stone Ocean! This is also the last part set in JoJo’s first timeline!

Stone Ocean was released between 1999 and 2003 in Japan. It consists of 158 chapters, which VIZ Media has collected into eight hardcover volumes.

JoJo’s Extended Universe! A one shot manga featuring Jolyne taking place in another continuity, and a light novel complement part 6.

  • Jolyne, Fly High With Gucci
    One shot manga made in collaboration with creative director Frida Giannini of Gucci. An English translation was posted for a short time on Gucci’s Facebook’s page.
  • JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Over Heaven
    Light novel presenting the lost transcript of DIO’s Diary briefly seen in Stone Ocean. Available in Japanese and French.

Part 7: Steel Ball Run

“A new starting point! You read that right—if you are interested in discovering the universe of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure but would like to do so with a more recent storyline, Steel Ball Run is a good entry point as it is the start of a new continuity, completely separate from the previous six parts.

There are common elements and references to the first continuity, but you can enjoy this story without any problems… once it is released by Viz Media! Currently, the publisher is releasing Stone Ocean. We can imagine that Steel Ball Run will arrive in the second half of 2025.

Steel Ball Run was released between 2004 and 2011 in Japan and consists of 95 chapters

Part 8: JoJolion

Steel Ball Run was released between 2011 and 2021 in Japan and consists of 110 chapters. As you can imagine, there is no official English translation yet.

Part 9: The JOJOLands

This new part started in February 2023 and is still ongoing in Japan.
