Daredevil fans rejoice! The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen hasn’t had an event around him since 2010, with Shadowland. The actual Daredevil team, Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto rectify that with Devil’s Reign, a Marvel event confronting our superheroes to the mayor of the biggest city in America, Wilson Fisk!
Per Marvel’s official Synopsis, Wilson Fisk has risen from Kingpin of Crime to mayor of the biggest city in America. Now he’s going to bring his full criminal and political power to bear on the superheroes who call NYC home!
The man who once destroyed Daredevil has targeted the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and more. Fisk has an army of supervillains at his command — including Crossbones, Taskmaster, Typhoid Mary, Shocker, Whiplash, Rhino, and Kraven — and that’s just his opening salvo. Wait until you meet his Thunderbolts!
But Mayor Fisk isn’t the only one with ambitions…and you know what they say about honor among thieves. From the blockbuster creative team of DAREDEVIL comes the final act in Wilson Fisk’s master plan!
What to read before Devil’s Reign?
Since Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto took over Daredevil, the story has been in a way building toward this event. It’s a good run, worth checking out, and you can find the complete trade paperbacks listed on our Daredevil Reading Order.

Devil’s Reign event has also a few ties with Charles Soule’s run, as it was during that time that Fisk became Mayor of New York. It’s also during this run that the Purple Children made their last appearances, in Daredevil: Back in Black, Vol. 4: Identity.
For those out there who like to know a little more, especially about other Marvel heroes entangled in this event, here are a few things to know:
- Peter Parker has gotten sick, and Ben Reilly took over for a time as Spider-Man, working for the Beyond Corporation. If you want to know more about it, you need to read Amazing Spider-Man Beyond.
- For a time, Dock Ock was Superior Spider-Man, but it came to an end with the conclusion of Superior Spider-Man Vol. 2 after he made a deal with Mephisto.
- Spider-Woman’s story in Devil’s Reign makes references to her past, more specifically the Secret Invasion event (but it’s more than optional, like those tie-ins).
- At some point, Danny Rand has given up his powers to save the world. Who is the new Iron Fist? is a question explored right now in the new Iron Fist title.
