Miguel O’Hara alias Spider-Man 2099 was created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi for the Marvel 2099 comic book line and was, without a doubt, the breakout star of this imprint. He made his first appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #365 (as a preview) in August 1992 before headlining his own title with Spider-Man 2099, launched in November 1992.
Welcome to 2099 also known as Earth-928, where there are no active superheroes in this world. The present-day Marvel continuity is referred to as an “Age of Heroes” that abruptly ended in a catastrophe a century before that also set back society. This is a dystopia where North America is a corporate police state ruled by a few huge megacorporations, mostly Alchemax. Owned by Tyler Stone, it produces everything, from everyday products to military weaponry and private space travel.
A brilliant Irish-Mexican geneticist, Miguel O’Hara is living in Nueva York (a renamed New York City) in the year 2099 and actually working for Alchemax on genetically giving humans superpowers, but things didn’t go as planned — as always in the experimental field of science Marvel.
When one of his experiments to replicate the powers of superhero Spider-Man is used against him, his DNA is rewritten and becomes fifty percent spider. With great power comes great responsibility, and Miguel decides to use his new abilities to take down Tyler Stone and Alchemax. He becomes Spider-Man 2099.

Spider-Man 2099 meets Captain Marvel! This story was written in 2002, after the end of Spider-Man 2099 volume One but can be read it here. When writer Peter David sent Captain Marvel (alias Genis-Vell at the time) and Starfox to 2099, it was obviously the perfect occasion to make them work with the one and only Spider-Man 2099 during a short storyline in which they tried to stop the villain named Thanatos messing with the timeline.
- Captain Marvel vol. 4 #27–30
Uncollected

Where are Spider-Man 2099 Vol. 1 #39–46?
Those issues are never been collected yet.
In early 1996, editor Joey Cavalieri was fired. It was something tragically common at the time, with Marvel’s future uncertain. It led to the cancellation of the 2099 titles. In Spider-Man 2099, Peter David chose to resign in solidarity with his editor, finishing his run with issue #44. The last two issues of Spider-Man 2099 were done without his input and the series ended with issue #46.
A few months later, Marvel launched World of Tomorrow, a comic book series that continued incomplete storylines after all those cancellations. The series was written by Joe Kelly and Ben Raab, with multiple artists. Those 8 issues were followed by a one-shot, leading us to the official end of the 2099 line, but also giving us a conclusion to Miguel O’Hara’s story — before Marvel messed up everything with some time-traveling shenanigans.
- 2099 World of Tomorrow

Spider-Man Volume 2 in All-New Marvel Now (2014-2015)
Miguel’s timeline became complicated with the event Age of Ultron (check out the complete reading order), where time was broken because of Wolverine’s time travel journeys. It created various tears across the fabric of the entire multiverse and divergent realities. After this, Earth-928 would diverge into Earth-TRN588 (where Doctor Doom never became the President of the United States). Spider-Man 2099 goes into the past to try to fix things, during Superior Spider-Man — part of Dan Slott’s run on Spider-Man.
Beware! Marvel considers that, whatever the mumbo-jumbo time travel that had happened, we still dealing with the same Miguel O’Hara. So you can treat him as the same character or a different one. There’s enough time travel and retcon to make everything possible in the Marvel timelines!
